Matthew Austin: Talking with Fear about Dying Tomorrow

Matthew Austin: “Talking with Fear about Dying Tomorrow is a body of work that follows the path of a 40-day journey I took last summer which functioned as an exercise in fulfilling the desire to travel alone and place myself in unfamiliar situations so as to learn from them.”

“The project exists as an artist’s book that centers around the word for word transcription of my journal from the trip, but also contains a small zine comprised of every photo from a toga party I went to in Portland, a series of 38 color photographs, and an envelope of recreated ephemera that was found in my car after returning from the trip.”

“The work encourages an appreciation for the ways in which we recognize the common desire to feel special and tangibly represent the significance of our experiences.”
